Beschreibungen

This book focuses on the application of ionic liquids in flow assurance in the oil and gas industry. It discusses their physiochemical properties, and considers the role of ionic liquids as gas hydrate inhibitors in offshore pipelines.

Gas hydrate occurrence can pose a major threat to pipeline integrity. Therefore, different categories of gas hydrate inhibitors and the main factors influencing ionic liquids during gas hydrate inhibition are examined thoroughly. The use of ionic liquids as corrosion inhibitors, their application in flow assurance industry to mitigate corrosion, and factors affecting their performance are discussed. Finally, the applications of ionic liquids in wax, scale and asphaltenes deposition control is explored.

The extensive discussion of ionic liquids in flow assurance mean that this book will be of use to researchers, engineers, and industry professionals in upstream processing of the oil and gas sector.

Dr Bhajan Lal is a senior lecturer in the Chemical Engineering Department at the Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS. He is a core research member of the Carbon Dioxide Research Centre in the Institute of Contaminant Management at UTP. After receiving his Ph.D. degree, he worked as postdoctoral research fellow and Research Scientist in USA, Canada, South Africa, Turkey, and Malaysia. His main areas of research interests are clathrate hydrates, CO2 capture and storage, natural gas storage, flow assurance, gas hydrate-based wastewater treatment, and water-based drilling fluid. He has published 70 peer-reviewed journal papers, 38 conference papers, and 4 book chapters and a book titled “Chemical Additives for Gas Hydrates”. In addition, as project leader, he has secured 8 gas hydrate-related research projects worth RM 2 million from oil and gas industries, UTP, and Malaysian Government.

Mr Ali Qasim completed his bachelor’s degree from NFC Institute of Engineering and Technology, Multan, Pakistan. He received his Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering Department at the Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, where he is currently pursuing his Ph.D. degree on gas hydrate and corrosion inhibition in the field of flow assurance. Since 2012, he has published 9 research articles, 5 conference papers and a book chapter in the field of adsorption, natural gas purification, gas hydrates and flow assurance with the emphasis on application of ionic liquids and quaternary ammonium salts.

Professor Azmi M Shariff is a Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department at Universiti Teknologi Petronas. He is the Director of the Institute of Contaminant Management for Oil and Gas, and a former head of CO₂ Research Centre (CO₂RES) and the Centre for Advanced Process Safety (CAPS). He received his PhD in Chemical Engineering from University of Leeds in 1996. Professor Shariff is an academician with more than 20 years of successful experience in teaching, supervising postgraduate students and research and development. He is the founder and chairman of Malaysia Carbon Management Society and the Chairman for Loss Prevention Asia 2019.
